Trekking Rinjani Lombok

4 Day 3 NIght Lake & Summit Rinjani Start Senaru Package

sembalun

Overview

This classic four-day traverse begins on the Senaru rainforest trail (600 m), climbs to the panoramic Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 m), descends into the caldera to the turquoise Segara Anak Lake (2,000 m) and its natural hot springs, then continues across to the Sembalun Crater Rim (2,620–2,639 m) for a comfortable summit launch. The final day makes an early push to the Summit of Mount Rinjani (3,726 m) before descending out via Sembalun. This slower, 4-day pacing spreads the effort, gives ample time at the lake/hot springs, and is a well-documented route used by established outfitters.

Itinerary
  • Day 1
Senaru –  Senaru Crater Rim (Camp)
Meet in Senaru for registration, safety briefing, and gear check. Hike the shaded rainforest path past signed rest posts (Pos 1 – Pos 2 – Pos 3) to reach Plawangan Senaru / Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 m). Set camp and enjoy sunset views across the caldera to Segara Anak and the summit ridge. Typical ascent quoted by operators: 6–8 hours, depending on pace and conditions.
  • Day 2
Senaru Rim – Segara Anak Lake & Hot Springs (Lake Camp)
Descend the inner crater wall to the Segara Anak Lake (~2,000 m); relax by the lakeshore and soak in the nearby hot springs—a classic recovery stop on Senaru-start programs. Camp by the lake. Rim→lake is commonly estimated at 2.5–4 hours; trail can be steep/slippery in parts.
  • Day 3
Lake – Sembalun Crater Rim (Camp)
Climb from the lake to Plawangan Sembalun (2,620–2,639 m), traversing the caldera with broad views of the lake and the summit cone. Set camp on the Sembalun rim—this positioning makes the next day’s summit push more efficient.
  • Day 4 — Summit (3,726 m) → Descend to Sembalun (Finish)
Pre-dawn summit push on steep volcanic scree to reach Rinjani’s summit (3,726 m) for sunrise panoramas over Lombok, Bali, and Sumbawa. Return to Sembalun rim for breakfast, then continue the long descent through Sembalun’s open savannah to Sembalun Village for finish/transfer. This 4D3N Senaru-start plan (rim → lake → Sembalun rim → summit → Sembalun) is a standard loop published by multiple outfitters.
