Itinerary for mount rinjani trekking

Itinerary for Mount Rinjani trekking follows one fixed shape inside Mount Rinjani National Park on Lombok. Every route climbs to a crater rim on day one. Summit programs then attack the 3,726-metre peak at 2 a.m. on day two. After that, the trek ends in Sembalun or Senaru village. Below, we break down the day-by-day schedules we run at Lombok Hiking Tour. Each one carries verified distances, walking hours and campsite altitudes.

The schedules come straight from our own trek packages, so the numbers match what you actually walk. Moreover, three 2026 park rules shape every plan: the level IV rating, the 1:4 guide ratio and the eRinjani permit.

Itinerary for Mount Rinjani Trekking at a Glance

Four programs cover nearly every request we receive. The 2D1N crater rim trek suits short trips. The 2D1N summit trades the lake for the peak. The 3D2N traverse delivers the full experience. Meanwhile, the 4D3N version splits the hardest day in two. Therefore, your available days and fitness decide the choice, because all programs share the same campsites and highlights.

Day Zero Itinerary – Arrival, Hotel and Trek Briefing

Every itinerary starts the evening before the trek. We pick you up at Lombok airport, your hotel or the Gilis ferry terminal. Then we transfer you to Senaru or Sembalun for the included hotel night. After check-in, our guide runs the briefing: route schedule, safety rules and gear check. A local clinic issues the health certificate beforehand. If you arrive early, the waterfall walk in Senaru fills the afternoon nicely.

3D2N Itinerary – Summit, Segara Anak Lake and Hot Springs

Our most popular program is the 3D2N summit and lake trek via Sembalun. It packs the summit, Segara Anak lake and the hot springs into three days. You never walk the same ground twice. Day two is the longest at ten to twelve hours, so read it twice before you commit.

Day 1 – Sembalun village (1,156 m) to Sembalun crater rim (2,639 m). After an early hotel breakfast, we transfer you to Sembalun for registration at the Rinjani Information Centre. The trail then climbs through open savanna, with short rests at Pos 1 and Pos 2. A cooked lunch waits at Pos 3 (1,800 m). The final section steepens sharply toward the rim. In total you cover ten kilometres in seven to eight hours. Then you watch the sunset over the caldera from camp.

Day 2 – Summit (3,726 m), Segara Anak lake and hot springs. We wake you at 2 a.m. for a light breakfast. The summit push covers five kilometres: roughly three hours up and two hours down across loose volcanic scree. You reach the top around sunrise. Back at camp, a hot breakfast restores you. Then the trail drops 3.4 kilometres to Segara Anak lake (2,000 m), which takes three to four hours. After a lakeside lunch, you soak in the hot springs. Afterwards, you climb the final 2.5 kilometres to Senaru crater rim (2,641 m) for the second camp.

Day 3 – Senaru crater rim to Senaru village (601 m). Breakfast comes first, then a five-to-six-hour descent through thick rainforest. You pass the same Pos 3, Pos 2 and Pos 1 rest stops. We reach Senaru around 1 p.m., and your transfer leaves straight for your next destination.

2D1N Itinerary Options – Crater Rim or Summit

Two shorter itineraries exist, and they serve different goals. The 2D1N Senaru crater rim package skips the summit entirely. Day one climbs 2,040 metres through rainforest to the rim. Day two then delivers sunrise over the caldera before the descent back to Senaru. Meanwhile, the 2D1N summit package via Sembalun follows the standard day one to Sembalun rim. Day two pushes for the summit at 2 a.m., then descends all the way back to Sembalun village. As a result, day two becomes the longest single day of any program. Choose it only with strong legs and a tight schedule.

4D3N Itinerary for Mount Rinjani Trekking – Slower Pace, Same Summit

The 4D3N itinerary keeps every highlight but removes the crush. You still take the 2 a.m. summit push on day two. However, you sleep at the lake shore instead of climbing to the second rim the same afternoon. Day three then covers the climb to Senaru rim. Day four handles the forest descent plus an optional waterfall visit. Consequently, recovery improves, and photographers gain a full golden hour beside Segara Anak. See our 4D3N summit and lake program for the complete schedule.

How Park Rules Shape Every Mount Rinjani Trekking Itinerary

TNGR fixes several itinerary details, so no operator can adjust them freely. Summit pushes start at 2 a.m. because you must cross the scree before morning winds strengthen. Furthermore, the park rates Rinjani at difficulty level IV and bars first-time hikers. One guide leads a maximum of four trekkers since January 2026. Every climber also needs an eRinjani permit plus a health certificate.

Quotas matter too: July to September dates sell out two to four weeks ahead. Fees follow the same logic, since entry applies per person per day. Three days on a Class 1 route therefore costs Rp 750,000 per foreign trekker. ANTARA confirmed that figure after the 2025 increase. Finally, remember the season: the park closes every 1 January to 31 March. Torean also stays shut after the September 2026 fires. Therefore, Sembalun and Senaru itineraries remain the reliable choices. The TNGR official site and the Forestry Ministry rules confirm these requirements.
